20 Southeast Asians awarded as IID Fellows

By: UNIID SEA - 2014-10-30

Twenty “Innovation for Inclusive Development” champions will develop teaching and learning packages featuring innovative and inclusive approaches to pressing social concerns such as livelihood, food security, climate change, water and sanitation, and special education, among others.  These 20 champions are the pioneering batch of the IID Fellows Program, a regional initiative promoting sharing of IID knowledge and experience in Southeast Asia. Advocating “inclusive innovation”, the program has identified the poor and marginalized sectors as the primary co-learners for the packages.

The IID Fellows Program awards small grants to encourage IID champions to turn their knowledge and experience into modules and courses. This joint project of UNIID-SEA and theASEAN University Network was launched last April. Among the 104 proposals received from the 10 ASEAN member countries, 20 Fellows have been selected after a rigorous screening process.

The winning proposals were chosen for their excellent demonstration of the elements of IID—responsive to the needs of the poor and marginalized, solution seeking, open and collaborative, scalable, and sustainable. The quality of the proposed teaching and learning package, evaluated based on design and usability, content, responsiveness to target users, and flexibility and replicability, were also considered.

The IID Fellows are now undergoing mentorship with IID experts from the UNIID-SEA network to develop and refine the packages. Once ready for release, the modules and courses will be shared to the public via the Inclusive Innovation Hub. This web-based knowledge and networking hub is currently under development, and will be formally launched by the last quarter of 2014.
